Because I'm still pissed at the art world

Photographer Tracy Lee posted this:

"National Deadline: April 10, 2006 - This national exhibition is a celebration of the multiple dimensions of women. Open to US based women artists. We are seeking artworks that explore the diversity of womanhood. Earth Mother - Wise Woman - Mother / Daughter -Goddess - Spirited Souls.

As women our lives are often challenging - yet we flourish. We are culturally diverse. We seek to be proud. Through art we blossom.

Special conditions of Entry:
No sexual, violent or disturbing images."

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

First, you complain that "as women, our lives are often challenging", then you turn around and suggest clicheéd, restrictive, gendered roles that we need to embrace in order to be considered women in your screwed up show? And, as Lee pointed out, WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO BE SEXUAL?! See, if you deny this woman her sexuality, she will get very, very violent towards you, and the results will be very disturbing. AND I'll take pictures of it and call it art. DAMN IT. Now I need a whole new wardrobe to fit this new role you want me to play. I don't own nearly enough pinafores and bloomers to really be a true woman.

Say it loud, say it proud: I am a woman, and I love sex. So sue me.

Please consider this to be my official boycott of women-only shows.

My wife and I went to MOCA (YAY) it was a really cool exhibit and I didn't realize MOCA was so cozy. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly to me and my wife. I saw your piece still had not sold and I wish I had the money to buy it myself. I'm currently saving for a MacBook Pro (which I'm awfully close to affording). I think I might try to make time to visit MOCA on a regular basis.

As for your frustrations you have every right to be upset. It's become too easy for people to be closed minded. Even though the deadline is close, if you write them maybe they would reconsider? I don't feel any of the models (male or female) are exploited in your work and a persons sexuality is certainly a part of them. To celebrate a woman and deny her sexuality is to remove part of what makes her "Earth Mother" and "Mother/ Daughter". You don't have to be "The" voice but you should be one of them. I'm slowly learning that unless you stand against the things you don't like in the world, things will stay the same.

are you sure it isnt just that the show will be exhibited in a public place that is accesible by minors?
